A total of 25.9 million violent and property victimizations occurred in the United States in 2000. Although these statistic show a 15% decline in violent crime and a 10% decline in property crime from the 1999, millions of people are still being impacted by crime, directly or indirectly.20 

This section includes new, updated statistics on many types of crime, including property crime and violent crimes against persons. The information presented below was complied by the Office for Victims of Crime and distributed as a part of a special information packet for National Crime Victims' Rights Week.
