ROBBERY
Robbery & Protection ] Robbery Trauma ] Robbery & Financial Assistance ] Robbery--Court ] [Back]

The National Victim Center describes robbery as one of the most feared crimes in our country because it not only involves a loss of property, but also includes the threat, or actual use, or violence. There are many "types" of robberies: individuals may be robbed of personal property in their home or accosted on the street. Sometimes robberies occur on public transportation such buses or subways. Many robberies occur at places of employment, such as service stations, convenience stores, or banks. Some robberies involve weapons, such as guns or knives, and others do not. All robberies share one commonality, however: They are often much more traumatic than a simple property crime or the crime of embezzlement because the victim encounters the robber face-to-face and feels an immediate loss of control. Even when victims do not suffer extensive injury or loss, they often experience many fears and emotions after the robbery. This page offers special information on some topics that may concern victims of robbery
