Property crime may be one of the most overlooked areas of criminal activity in terms of its effects on its victims. Property crimes may range from vandalism, to fraud, to grand larceny of a vehicle, to breaking and entering to commit larceny. Any of these offenses can have tremendous impact on a victim’s life: vandalism can include destructive hate messages; fraud can take an elderly victim’s entire life savings, leaving them financially unable to care for themselves; burglary can destroy a business, or leave a family feeling shaken and vulnerable in their own home. While there may not be as many resources available for victims of property crimes as other victims, these individuals do have many rights and services available to them. Here are some topics that may be of particular interest to individuals who have experienced property theft or damage.
