VICTIMS' RIGHTS HISTORY
 

1986     The Office for Victims of Crime awards the first grants to support state victim 

            compensation and assistance programs.

 

            Rhode Island passes a constitutional amendment granting victims the right to

            restitution, to submit victim impact statements, and to be treated with dignity and 

            respect.
