NOVEMBER 3, 2009, GENERAL ELECTION

 

A General Election will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2009, to elect a Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, and members of the House of Delegates for the 91st and 96th districts.

The polls will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at all York County polling places.

To view Sample Ballot for Queens Lake, Yorktown, Waller Mill, Magruder, Coventry, Kiln Creek, Edgehill, Harwoods Mill, Tabb and Bethel precincts that are in the 96th House of Delegates district.

To view Sample Ballot for Seaford, Harris Grove and Dare precincts that are in the 91st House of Delegates district.

  • Voter Registration Deadline: Monday, October 5, 2009.  The Constitution of Virginia requires that you be registered in the precinct in which you live in order to be qualified to vote. The deadline to register to vote to be eligible for the November 3, 2009, General election is October 5, 2009.

 

Registered voters who need to change their address may do so by completing, signing, and submitting a voter registration application or their voter card. The deadline to change registration information prior to the November 3, 2009, General election  is October 5, 2009. If a registered voter's address has changed, he or she should update their address to ensure they remain qualified to vote.

 

Any qualified resident of Virginia may apply for voter registration or update his or her registration information at the places and times listed below.

REGISTRATION SITES:

Voter Registrar’s Office:   224 Ballard St., County Admin. Center, Yorktown · Monday-Friday · 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM

York County Library (Tabb Branch):   100 Long Green Blvd., Tabb · Every day
Applicants may register during library hours.  On October 5, 2009, this branch will be open 10:00 AM - 9:00 PM.

York County Library (Yorktown Branch):   8500 George Washington Memorial Hwy, Yorktown · Every day
Applicants may register during library hours. On October 5, 2009, this branch will be open 10:00 AM – 9:00 PM.

 Griffin-Yeates Center:   1490 Government Rd., Williamsburg · Monday-Friday · 8:15 AM - 5:00 PM

FINAL DAY TO APPLY FOR AN ABSENTEE BALLOT:

By mail: Tuesday, October 27, 2009, by 5 pm

In person: Saturday, October 31, 2009, by 5 pm

The Registrar’s Office will be open Saturday, October 24 and October 31, 2009, 9 am – 5 pm for absentee voting. Applications for voter registration, applications for absentee voting, and sample ballots will be made available at the registration sites listed above and on the Registrar’s website at www.yorkcounty.gov/voting or by calling the Registrar’s Office at 757-890-3440 (hearing impaired: TTD 890-3300).

The law permits emergency absentee voting in certain, limited circumstances until 2 pm on Monday, November 2, 2009. For more information on emergency absentee voting, call the Registrar’s Office at 757-890-3440.
