Master
Gardeners are a unique group of volunteers trained by Virginia
Cooperative Extension to provide an effective network of gardening
programs and activities to enhance their communities.
UNIQUE— The York County
Master Gardener program is designed to meet the needs of York County
citizens.
VOLUNTEERS—Master Gardeners are a cross
section of Americans with
something in common—a desire to share their knowledge and skills
with their communities free of charge.
TRAINED— Master Gardeners
are trained through Cooperative Extension, receiving up-to-date,
accurate information based on research.
NETWORK—Master Gardeners
link York County citizens to the National Land Grant College system
which includes Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University
and Virginia State University.
GARDENING PROGRAM AND
ACTIVITIES—Master Gardeners
work with communities, political leaders, and commercial
firms to present programs in all aspects of gardening. Areas
include: landscape,
vegetables, grounds management, flowers, urban forestry, house
plants, insects, disease, fruit crops, and herbs.
ENHANCE THEIR COMMUNITIES—Master
Gardeners believe that by working together they can make York County
a better place to live. Master
Gardeners are from all communities in York County.
Their programming delivered through on site clinic in the
community and they reach out to community groups to help solve their
problems. Points of
programming emphasized are in pesticide reduction, water quality
enhancement and agricultural profitability.
