Pruning a Crape Myrtle
LagErStroemia indica

The Crape Myrtle is a tree of four seasons.  We enjoy the lime-green chartreuse foliage as it makes its late spring arrival.   The bloom, born on current seasons wood, of over 100 days provides interest in every color of the rainbow.  The burnt orange, bright yellows and reds are the fall signature colors of the Crape Myrtle.  This tree provides an entire winter of exfoliating, colorful bark and the contortion of the trunk is a pleasure to enjoy.

Proper pruning will enhance and maintain its natural appearance throughout the year, as well as, distribute the bloom throughout the entire tree.

The following presentation is designed to be educational.  It will guide you through the decision making process when pruning a Crape Myrtle Tree.  Each tree will present new challenges.  Remember the principles of pruning and apply these principles when making your pruning decisions.
