VIRGINIA INITIATIVE FOR EMPLOYMENT NOT WELFARE (VIEW)

The Virginia Initiative for Employment not Welfare (VIEW) is the work component of the Virginia Independence Program. VIEW participants receive a maximum of 24 months of Temporary Assistance.

Work Requirement: Most  recipients  of Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) are now required to work.  They are provided many services to help them get and keep jobs. Those unable to find jobs will provide community service in unpaid positions.

Earned Income Disregard: VIEW participants can now keep the money they earn up to the poverty level.  This creates a renewed motivation to work, while eliminating the old disincentive that discouraged work.

Two-Year Time Limit: VIEW participants are eligible for two years of TANF assistance and one year of transitional benefits, followed by a two-year period of ineligibility.

Transitional Medicaid, Child Care, and Transportation: An additional 12 months of medical, child care, and transportation benefits may be available, if needed, for transition from dependence to independence.
