Business License Requirements and
Forms
Back
to Business License
The office of the Commissioner of the
Revenue will mail applications to renew York County Business Licenses during the first
week of January annually. To avoid penalties and interest for late filing and late
payment, the renewal license application and tax must be filed and paid on or before March
1st annually.
If you filed a SCHEDULE C or SCHEDULE C-EZ
"Profit or Loss from a Business," you are considered engaged in
business and required to obtain a York County Business License. Business license
phone: (757) 890-3383.
If you are required to file a SCHEDULE C or
SCHEDULE C-EZ, and indicate on Line E that your business is located at a
York County address, and you have not obtained a York County Business License, you are in
violation of State and County laws. If Line E on Schedule C or Schedule C-EZ is left
blank, and your mailing address on the front of your Income Tax Return indicates York
County, it is presumed that your business is operating in York County. Placing the
correct business location on Line E will not affect your mailing address, therefore it is
important to verify that line E is correct.
In addition
to obtaining a Business License, you must also annually file a Business Tangible
Personal Property Tax Return for your business furniture, fixtures, equipment, computer
equipment, machinery and tools. Personally owned items used in a business
automatically become business items, and therefore, must be included on your
return. This form must be filed annually on or before February 15.
