WASTE
DISPOSAL SERVICES. York County's weekly refuse collection service is available to
all York County houses and to eligible small businesses. Basic service is
$16 per month
and includes the use of two 96-gallon wheeled refuse toters.
Residents are billed every two months. Refuse containers must be out at the
front roadside by 7 a.m. on your scheduled pickup day to ensure collection.
Residents must contact the York County Waste Management Center to sign up
for this service by Friday afternoon in order to start collection the
following week. For more information on additional services available and

WEB-SITE. York County's web-site,
located at
www.yorkcounty.gov,
has given citizens access to their local government 24 hours
a day, seven
days a week. County departments, divisions, agencies and several court
programs are represented on the site, as well as the
public libraries,
Office of Economic Development, a historical tour
and a
tourism site. Also, on-line access to
Board
of Supervisors meeting agendas and minutes of previous meetings, the
County's budget document, various other documents, forms and a searchable
copy of the entire
York County Code is available.

WETLANDS. York
County has more than 200 miles of shoreline, including 2,000 acres of salt marshes and
wetlands. The Department of Environmental and Development
Services is responsible for implementation of the Wetlands Ordinance. A
permit is needed to construct bulkheads, riprap revetments, community piers
and any other structures in tidal wetlands areas. The Wetlands Board,
appointed by the Board of Supervisors, has monthly public hearings to act on
all applications involving construction or land disturbance in their
jurisdictions. The
Wetlands Board also acts on violations and administers
civil charges. For additional information on wetlands permitting, a DVD or
video may be borrowed from the
Department of Environmental and Development

WETLANDS INTERPRETIVE
SANCTUARY FOR EDUCATION (WISE). A half-mile trail through two
acres of wetlands in
Charles Brown Park. A guide book is available
that provides educational information about wetlands habitats, plants and
animal species.

WILLS
AND ESTATE MATTERS. The
Clerk of Circuit Court files wills, lists of heirs, and other estate
matters, and issues certificates of qualification for executors,
administrators, guardians and conservators.
