DECALS. County decals are no longer required to be displayed on vehicles of York County residents, however, vehicle registration fees must still be paid. (See Automobiles).

DEEDS AND RECORDS. Deeds and other official documents are recorded and filed for a fee by the Clerk of the Circuit Court.  Telephone - (757) 890-4103.

DEVELOPMENT & COMPLIANCE. Responsible for the regulation of land use and development activities and the elimination of property-related nuisances within the County. This is accomplished through the administration and enforcement of the County's Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances and various sections of the County Code pertaining to property-related nuisances. A division of the Department of Environmental and Development Services.  Telephone - (757) 890-3524.

DRAINAGE PROBLEMS.  Maintaining all roadside drainageway easements, their associated culvers and right-of-ways is the responsibility of VDOT. To report a roadside related drainage problem, call (757) 898-5151 (for lower York) and (757) 566-3133 (for upper York). To reach VDOT's main office in Williamsburg, call (757) 253-5138 (after hours call (757) 424-9903).

Call York County Environmental & Development Services' Stormwater Division on (757) 890-3752 for County easement off-road drainageways that often carry water to the roadside. If there is no specified, dedicated drainage easement on one's property plat, then the homeowner assumes responsibility for maintenance.  If unsure about drainage responsibilities, CLICK HERE to submit a service request on-line.
