ADMINISTRATOR, COUNTY.
The County Administrator is appointed by the Board of Supervisors and oversees the day-to-day business of the County. Telephone - (757) 890-3320

ADULT SERVICES. Services are provided to protect adults aged 60 and older and incapacitated adults age 18 years of age or older from abuse, neglect, and exploitation regardless of income or resources. These services include: The receipt and investigation of reports that an adult is being abused, neglected or exploited or at risk of abuse, neglect or exploitation, the provision of a variety of health care options, social and legal services to prevent or stop the mistreatment, and the potential to intervene and provide essential protection to persons in emergency situations.  Telephone - State Hotline 1-888-83-ADULT or call York-Poquoson Social Services - (757) 890-3787

ANIMALS. Both dogs and cats must have rabies inoculations. Cats are not required to have licenses. Dogs must have a current license issued annually by the Treasurer for $5. Deadline is December 31.  Telephone - (757) 890-3420.  A current rabies certificate is needed to obtain the license. Dogs are not allowed to roam free and must be on the owner's property or under the owner's control at all times. Dogs must be leashed on public property.   Dead animals in the street or ditch will be removed by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) by calling (757) 253-4832 or (757) 898-5151.  Animal Control can be reached by calling (757) 890-3601.  To report vicious dogs after hours and on weekends, call (757) 890-3603.   To report barking dogs, call the Sheriff's Office at (757) 890-3621.

The keeping of five (5) or more dogs for the purpose of showing or hunting or as household pets constitutes operation of a private kennel, which is only permitted in certain areas of the County and under certain circumstances set forth in the York County Zoning Ordinance. If you need to request licenses for five (5) or more dogs, please contact Development and Compliance before purchasing. Telephone - (757) 890-3523. Any request for a dog license(s) for five (5) or more dogs must be accompanied by written authorization from Development and Compliance and submitted to the Treasurer's Office. Kennel tags can be obtained in the following increments (note: the $5 individual fee is waived in lieu of purchasing a kennel tag): 1 to 10 dogs - $15; 11 to 20 dogs - $20; 21 to 30 dogs - $25; 31 to 40 dogs - $30; 41 to 50 dogs - $35.

ATTORNEY, COMMONWEALTH'S. The Commonwealth's Attorney represents the state, County and Poquoson in criminal cases, oversees the Victim-Witness Assistance program and advises law enforcement in criminal matters.  yorkcounty.gov/cwa/index.htm

ATTORNEY, COUNTY. Advises and represents the Board of Supervisors, County Administrator, Planning Commission, Department of Social Services, School Board, and County officials. Reports directly to the Board of Supervisors and works with the County Administrator.

AUTOMOBILES. Vehicle registration is required for each vehicle and is paid to the Treasurer on or before June 5 of each year. Fee - $23.  Telephone - (757) 890-3420.  New vehicles and new residents - Vehicles must be registered within 60 days of purchase date or relocation to the County.
