Employment and Wages
Job
growth in York County has been strong in the 21st Century,
with a 30.2% increase in employment between 2000 and 2006. During this
period, total job growth for the Peninsula was 3.8%. Most of the jobs
created since 2001 have been in the relatively low-paying retail and
services sectors, which have surpassed the construction industry to
become the County’s two largest job sectors. This is reflected in the
fact that York has lagged behind neighboring jurisdictions in wage
growth between 2001 and 2006.
