Special Recreation Camp
General Information.
York County’s Special Recreation Camp is a summer program designed to provide a
variety of recreational opportunities for youth with disabilities and/or
special needs. The program fee includes daily activities, special events and
field trips. Registration is limited. Participants should bring a bag lunch and
beverage every day. This camp maintains a ratio of approximately
1staff
member per 3 students in order to meet the special needs of the campers.
Various activities include weekly themes, arts and crafts, special visitors,
field trips, swimming days, games, movies, and a talent show.
Field
Trips. Our field
trips will be listed on an activity calendar distributed prior to the first day
of camp. The Special Recreation Camp site will not be open on field trip days.
Parents are welcome to attend field trips, however, they must provide their own
transportation and pay all fees associated with the trip. In case of inclement
weather on outdoor field trip days, participants should call 890-3501 prior to
9:00 am for cancellation information.
Transportation.
Attempts will be made to
provide transportation to Bethel Manor Elementary School for as many children
as possible. However, busing is limited and you may need to provide
transportation for your child. Neighborhood shuttle buses will be arranged
after registration has been completed. Transportation will not be provided for
participants living in the Bethel Manor area unless a special need is
determined and approved by the Parks and Recreation Staff.
Waivers.
The Board of Supervisors has
authorized a fee waiver for this program for any child whose family falls within
the federal guidelines for Food Stamp Eligibility Limits applicable to York
County. A copy of your Food Stamp Card is required with the registration form in
order to qualify for this fee waiver.
Registration is required
for this program and is accepted on a first come, first serve basis. For
additional information please call 757.890.3500.
