What do I need to get a library card?
Library cards are issued in person to any resident of the
Commonwealth of Virginia who is at least 4 years old. Proof of identity,
proof of current address, and a completed
application are required. Children between 4 and 16 years of age will need a parent or
guardian's permission.
Can I get a library card if I live outside York County?
Yes. Patrons living in the Commonwealth of Virginia, but outside of York County may
get a library card.
Can I get a library card if I will only be in the area for a short time?
Yes. Temporary cards may be issued to patrons who will be in the Hampton
Roads area less than six months.
How much does a library card cost?
There is no charge to register and get a library card. There is a $2.00
replacement fee for a lost card.
How long may I check out a video?
DVD/VHS media can be checked out for two weeks. They may be renewed for
one additional week if the item is not on hold for another patron.
May I renew items by phone?
Yes. Call Yorktown at (757) 890-5209 or Tabb at (757) 890-5130.
Do you have computers I can use to type my report?
Yes. Microsoft Word and Excel are installed on our computers, and all of our
computers are attached to a printer. Sign up when you arrive at the library.
Can I "surf the net" from the library?
Yes. Both libraries have computers with Internet access. You will need your
York County Library card to sign in.
Do you have a story hour for children?

What if I'd like to volunteer at the Library?
Call either library to find out about volunteer opportunities, or stop in and
fill out an application.
