FOURTH ANNUAL JURIED LITERARY COMPETITION
The York County Public Library is pleased to
announce the winners of the
Fourth Annual
Literary Competition for Poetry and Short Stories. The community and
competition participants are invited to the Winners' Reception and Public
Reading on April 16 at 6:30 p.m. in the Tabb Library meeting room.
Prizes will be awarded, and the winners in the adult divisions will read their entry.

The York County Public Library is pleased to
announce the Fourth Annual
Literary Competition for Poetry and Short Stories. Entries will be
accepted at the Tabb Library during the month of February. Cash prizes will be
awarded for first, second and third place in the Adult Poetry Division, Adult
Short Story Division and High School Short Story Division. Competition rules are
available below. Winners will be announced on March 30. Prizes will be awarded
at the Winners' Reception and Public Reading held during National Library Week
at 6:30 p.m. on April 16 in the Tabb Library meeting room.

Submissions for the 2009 York County
Public Library Juried Literary Competition are due February 1-28, 2009.
The competition
is open to adults, 18 years old and up, residing in York County and
neighboring jurisdictions and high school students
attending schools located in York County.
Each writer in the Adult Division may submit one short story and one
poem. Each writer in the High School Division may submit one
short story. Writers eligible to enter both the High School
Division and the Adult Division may not enter both, but must choose
either the High School Division or the Adult Division.
Entries must be unpublished, original manuscripts.
Each entry must be submitted on a CD or floppy disk as a Word
document (Office 2000 or later). A paper copy of each entry
must also be submitted.
Short stories must not exceed 3,000 words and should be typed and
double-spaced on 8 1/2" by 11" paper.
Poetry entries must not exceed 100 lines and should be typed, single
or double-spaced, on 8 1/2" by 11" paper.
Each entry must include a separate cover sheet with the following
information: division in which entered; title of entry; word
count (short stories only); and entrant's name, address and
telephone number. Entries in the High School Division must
also indicate school attending. The title should appear on the
first page of the short story or poem.
Do not submit your only copy. Entries will not be returned
after the competition.
Entries must be hand-delivered to the Tabb Library by 5:00 p.m. on
February 28, 2009 or mailed to: York County Public Library, 100
Long Green Boulevard, Yorktown, VA 23693, ATTN: Literary
Competition. Mailed entries must also be received no later
than February 28, 2009. Faxed or emailed entries will not be
accepted. Contact the Library at (757) 890-5120 if you have

Winners will be announced on March 30, 2009. A Winners'
Reception and Public Reading will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 16,
2009, at the Tabb Library. Prizes will be awarded at the
Winners' Reception. |
