MAY IS ASIAN/PACIFIC AMERICAN
HERITAGE MONTH |
|
Asian/Pacific American
Heritage Month is a celebration of Asians and Pacific Islanders
in the United States. This commemoration originated in
1978 when a joint congressional resolution established Asian
Pacific American Heritage Week. In 1992 a law was passed
officially
designating the entire month of May each year as
Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month.
Visit the
Library of Congress web site to learn more about how
the contributions of Asian/Pacific Americans have helped make
America a strong and free society. Highlights include: the
Chinese in California between 1850 and 1925,
Yo-Yo Ma, and the
Veterans History Project. A PDF document titled
Asian Reflections on the American Landscape is
available on the National Park Service web site. This
document introduces Asian cultural heritage in the United States
and describes historic properties related to Asian cultural
heritage. |
