Technical Services and Special Operations Division

To ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the department's emergency response operations through training and education; management of the EMS system, special operation and special events; and provision of command support services.  

Objectives/Capabilities

     

  • Administer the department's emergency medical services system, including medical control; administer and manage the department's infection control program
  •  

  • Coordinate and/or deliver essential entry level, advanced and specialty certification programs, as well as continuing and in-service education programs
  •  

  • Maintain and develop cooperative efforts on a regional basis as appropriate
  •  

  • Maintain the department's automated information management system and incident reporting capabilities
  •  

  • Develop and maintain a special operations capability for the county to include technical rescue, marine incident response, mass casualty response, and fire/rescue support of special events
  •  

  • Provide command support services to include all command staff functions; coordinate special assistance and support services for victims of fire and emergency medical incidents
  •  

  • Maintain and develop regional cooperative efforts, including: Emergency Medical Services System Planning; Mass Casualty Response Planning; Standardized Incident Management and Personnel Accountability System Planning; the Peninsula Paramedic Program; the Tidewater Regional Fire Academy, the Tidewater Regional Technical Rescue Team; and the FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Team-Virginia Task Force Two
  •  

  • Develop, maintain and manage technical information and real-time information retrieval systems for use in emergency response planning and tactical decision making
  •  

  • Maintain the department’s audiovisual equipment, training aids and instructional resources
