Administrative
Offices
Located
on the first floor of the County’s Public Safety Building at
301 Goodwin Neck Road. All
four Divisions, the Office of Emergency Management, and the Animal Control
Bureau are coordinated from
this location. Offices
are immediately adjacent to the Sheriff’s Office.
Emergency
Communications Center (9-1-1)
Operates
the Enhanced 9-1-1 Telephone System. Dispatches
calls for the Department of Fire and Life Safety and Sheriff’s Office,
Maintains
radio communications capabilities with most
surrounding jurisdictions, Emergency
power supply back-up Staffed
24 hours a day, 365 days a year, Emergency
Telecommunicators Cross-trained
for law enforcement and fire/rescue dispatching, Certified
Virginia First Responders and provide pre-arrival emergency medical
instructions to callers by telephone.
Emergency
Operations Center (EOC)
Direction
and control location for major emergencies and disasters.
Coordination
of all essential County services during disasters or major emergencies.
Evacuation
Assembly Centers (EAC)/Shelters
Located
at county Public Schools on a case by case basis and other safe buildings
County’s
all purpose shelter is the Grafton Middle/High School complex on Grafton Drive

up during major emergencies for citizens evacuating their residences
Shelters
staffed by social services, school and county employees and Red Cross
volunteers all trained by Red Cross. Shelter
openings and locations are announced on public radio and television.
