do I begin? |

Everything
starts at the employment web site,
www.yorkcounty.gov/employment. There you will find links to
Employment Opportunities, an Online Employment Application Guide, and
Online Help for Getting Started. Above all, remember to keep a record of
your username and password once you have set up an account. You will
need it to apply for other positions or to check the status of your
application and when you re-enter the system, you will need to input
this information exactly as it was originally entered. |

Can I
get help with completing the online application? |
|
The
Human Resources Office is committed to ensuring the application process
is easy and user-friendly. The following resources are available:

How do I find out
what jobs are available? |
|
A list of
available positions can be viewed 24 hours a day; 7 days a week from any
computer with Internet access. Visit the employment web site at
www.yorkcounty.gov/employment and click on either the link
for
Online Employment
Opportunities (Open to All)
or
YORK COUNTY EMPLOYEES
ONLY (Open to County Employees Only). |

What if I do not have a computer or access to the internet? |
|
There are a number of ways to
complete an online application:
Currently one computer is available
in the Human Resources Office located at 120 Alexander Hamilton
Boulevard, Second Floor, Yorktown, Virginia 23690. Office hours
are 8:15 am - 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
You may also use the public computers
located at the
York
County Libraries. Evening and weekend hours are available.
Be prepared to sign up to use a computer and there may be a time limit.
You may use any personal computer
with internet access, so family and friends may be of assistance. |

An e-mail address is required. How do I get an e-mail address? |
|
Although we cannot endorse any one particular
vendor, free e-mail
is available through providers
such as
Yahoo,
Gmail, or
Hotmail. |
|
What information
will I be asked to provide? |
|
You will be asked to provide personal information
such as name, address, phone number, etc. You will also be asked
to provide information about your education, employment history, and
references. An email address will also be required. See the FAQ, "An
email address is required. How do I get an email address?"
for more information. You will shorten the time it takes to
complete your application if you gather this information before
beginning the online process. |

What if I am interested in a position that is not currently listed? |
|
If you wish to receive
notification when a job you are interested in becomes available, go to
www.yorkcounty.gov/
employment and click on the "Job
Description" link in the left hand column. Click on the name of
the job to open the description. On the right hand side, click on
the link entitled "Email me when more jobs like this are available" and
follow the online directions. Or, click on the "Job Vacancy
Notification Cards" link in the left hand column and follow the
instructions listed. |

How do I check the
status of my application? |
|
Check your
email for status notices. If you are no longer being considered
for a position, a notice will be sent to the email address you used on
your application. If you are selected for an interview or an offer
of employment, you will be contacted in most cases by phone.

How do I save my application? |
|
You must
click "SAVE" to retain the information you have entered. If you
close your browser prior to clicking "SAVE," you will lose any
information you entered after the last time you clicked "SAVE." If
at any time you need to exit out of the application form, click the
"Save" button at the bottom of the form. You can return to your
application later by logging into your account with your Username and
Password. |

What if I want to submit a
resume? |
|
You may
either attach or cut and paste a resume into your application.
Resume attachments must be in the
following formats: plain text (.txt file extension), rich text
(.rtf file extension), PDF (.pdf file extension), or Microsoft Word
(.doc extension). The attachment size is limited to 1MB.
Please note that
submitting a resume does not substitute for completing the application
form. |

Who will see
my application when I apply online? |
|
All
information is on a secure web server. Only the Human Resources
Division and other County department users authorized to review specific
job openings will have access. The County of York does not share
its database with other companies or localities. |
|
Where can I find information about employment with York County Schools? |
|
York
County Schools are a separate entity. Information and employment
opportunities are posted on their web site at http://yorkcountyschools.org/employment. |
|
Can I apply for
more than one job at a time? |
|
Yes.
Once you have created and saved your online application, you can apply
for multiple positions that are currently open. |
|
How do I print my application? |
|
After you
have submitted your application, you will see a link to ‘Click here for
a printable version of the application you just submitted.’ |
|
I missed the
deadline - can I still apply? |
|
As
with any position, once a closing date has passed, no application will
be accepted or considered. Please continue to visit the employment
web site at
www.yorkcounty.gov/employment and apply for new jobs as they become
available. You may also want to complete a Job Vacancy Notification Card
to automatically be notified when a position you are interested in
becomes available. To do so, see the FAQ, "What

Can I submit a
paper application or resume? |
|
Everyone
who applies for a position is required to create an online application.
Paper applications and resumes will not be accepted. |
|
Will I automatically be considered for other positions if I previously
submitted an application? |
|
A separate
application is required for each position so you must apply for each job
separately to be considered.
To ensure you will be considered for other positions, watch our
employment web site or complete a Job Vacancy Notification Card. |

What if I am not ready to fill out the application at this time? |
|
No
application is submitted until you click on the "Accept" button, which
is "Step 4: Confirm and Submit" (see the progress guide at the top of
the screen). If at any time you do not want to complete your
application, save your work, then logout. |
|
How and when can I
update my application? |
|
Changes can
be made to your application at anytime before it is submitted. Once you
submit an application for a particular position, you cannot go back and
make changes to the submitted application. If you make changes and
submit another application before the position closes, we will only
consider your most recent application. You may also make changes
before submitting your application for any new positions. If you
have any difficulty submitting an updated application before the
position closes, please contact the Human Resources Office at (757)
890-3687.
