The York County Office of Economic Development (OED) is tasked with addressing the needs of our existing businesses as well as attracting new business and industry to the County. The OED consists of a three-person staff – Director, Business Development Representative, and Executive Assistant.
Our staff is available to assist any new or existing York County company with their business needs. All services are provided at no charge.

Business Attraction
The York County OED performs many functions in the interest of attracting new commercial enterprises to the County and increase the non-residential tax base.
- Work with regional and state economic development agencies to promote York County as a viable business location.
- Prepare customized proposals for interested prospects.
- Provide accurate and current demographic, traffic count, and consumer expenditure data.
- Assist with available site and/or building location.
- Provide information resources and contacts for various processes and assistance programs offered by local and state departments.
- Work with local and state partners to assist businesses with workforce training and development needs.
- Serve as a liaison to the Economic Development Authority and to other County departments or state agencies.
Business Retention
The OED realizes that the majority of commercial growth comes from existing industry and therefore places a high priority on business retention. Staff conducts numerous existing industry visits each year and conducts a biennial Business Retention survey to help gauge the current business climate in the county. The survey helps to identify the key needs of the business community and any “red flag” issues that need to be quickly resolved. In addition to the survey, the OED provides many other services to our existing businesses.
- Assist with available site and/or building location for expansion needs.
- Provide accurate and current demographic, traffic count, and consumer expenditure data.
- Provide information resources and contacts for various processes and assistance programs offered by local and state departments.
- Work with local and state partners to assist businesses with workforce training and development needs.
- Work to continually assess and improve the County’s business-related procedures and policies to further encourage growth and development.
- Provide networking opportunities to assist existing businesses in expanding their client base. Events include annual Industry Dinner, Business Appreciation Reception, and various educational workshops.
- Serve as a liaison to the Economic Development Authority and to other County departments or
State agencies.
