"The Peninsula" is the land between the James & York Rivers containing the cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and Williamsburg, and the counties of York, James City, Charles City and New Kent.

The "Middle Peninsula" is the land between the York and Rappahannock Rivers comprised of Gloucester, Mathews, King and Queen, King William and Essex Counties.
