THE RIGHT TO INFORMATION***
 

1. You have the right to be informed of the many rights and services available to crime victims and which might apply to you.

2. The Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office can keep you informed of the case status and notify you in advance of any trial dates or scheduling changes.

3. Victims have a right to be informed about case status.  The Victim-Witness Assistance Program maintains an after-hours docket recording for victims and witnesses. If your case is listed on the recording, it means your case will not be heard on the following day and you DO NOT need to appear for court.  The number to call is (757) 890-3402.

4. The Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail can notify you of the prisoner’s escape, name change, transfer, discharge, or release from jail. This service is also available from the Department of Corrections. Contact the Victim-Witness Assistance program for a notification form.

5. The Victim-Witness Assistance Program can provide you with information about the conviction and sentencing of the offender, including any orders of not contact or restitution.

6. Victims of felony crimes have a right to be notified of plea agreements in their cases.
