Aging
The
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the United States is on
the brink of a longevity revolution. By 2030, the number of older
Americans will have more than doubled to 70 million, or one in every
five Americans. The growing number and proportion of older adults places
increasing demands on the public health system and on medical and social
services.
Listed below are just some of the resources providing
information on aging:
Federal Resources:
Medicare Publications
National
Council on Aging Programs to help older people remain healthy, find jobs, discover new
ways to continue contributing to society after retirement, and take
advantage of government and private benefits programs that can improve
the quality of their lives.
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)
Contains a
variety of articles and publications on automotive safety issues
concerning older drivers.
National Institute on
Aging Offers free publications on a
variety of subjects related to aging.

Virginia
Center on Aging
Study, research,
information and resource facility for the Commonwealth of Virginia
utilizing the full capabilities of faculty, staff, libraries,
laboratories and clinics for the benefit of older Virginians and the
expansion of knowledge pertaining to the aged and to the aging
process.
Local Resources:
Peninsula
Agency on Aging (PAA)
Provides programs in cooperation with other community
agencies in Hampton, Newport News, Williamsburg, Poquoson, James City
and York counties to assist older Virginians in independent and
productive living.

 A directory of local agencies, organizations, and services
related to
seniors and citizens with disabilities.

AARP (American Association
