Juvenile Services Division
Family
Oriented Group Home (FOGH)
The Bridges-Family
Oriented Group Home (FOGH) program is a regional specialized foster-care
program serving eight counties and two cities (counties of York, James
City, Charles City, Gloucester, Mathews, Middlesex, New Kent, and King
and Queen, and the cities of Williamsburg and Poquoson). FOGH began in
1977 as a response to the growing need to temporarily place youth (ages
10-18) who had come to the attention of the Juvenile and Domestic
Relations Court. These youth had been identified as needing an
alternative living arrangement to change their delinquent or
pre-delinquent behavior.
The goal of the FOGH
Program is to modify youth’s unacceptable behavior within a family
environment. The FOGH parents provide support and structured guidance
that nurtures and strengthens self-esteem, sense of worth, an ability to
cope with the world around him or her in a positive manner.
Individualized service plans are developed and monitored on a monthly
basis. The ultimate goal is family unification within a six to nine
month period. The FOGH families share love, understanding, fellowship,
and positive, parenting skills with youth in need of a push in the right
direction - the direction which will enable them to become successful
individuals.
Become
a Foster Care Parent
The York
County Family Oriented Group Home program is accepting applications for
specialized foster parents who can make a difference in the life of a
youth. This regional program serves teenagers who need a structured,
supportive family environment. Youth are CAREFULLY screened and
interviewed by foster parents and program staff prior to placement.
Monthly financial compensation, 24 hour support services, and training
is provided. If your family can make a positive difference in a young
person’s life, please call Terry Wagner at (757) 564-2484.
