Sec.
16-40. Personal watercraft; skis and similar devices.
(a) It shall be unlawful for any
person to operate a personal watercraft, as defined in Section 29.1-744.1, Code of
Virginia, within fifty (50) feet from a shore or dock, or within one hundred (100) feet of
swimmers. Nothing in this section shall be construed to prohibit access to and from waters
where operation is not restricted.
(b) Reckless operation or
manipulation of watercraft, skis, etc. No person shall operate any watercraft, or
manipulate any ski or skis, surfboard, aquaplane, or similar device in or on any creek or
cove or any other of the waters within the territorial limits of the county in a reckless
or negligent manner or at a speed such as to endanger the life or limb of any person or to
endanger, damage or destroy the property, whether real or personal, of any person.
(c) Operating or manipulating
watercraft, skis, etc, while intoxicated or under influence of drugs. No person shall
operate any watercraft, or manipulate any ski or skis, surfboard, aquaplane or similar
device in or on any of the waters within the territorial limits of the county while under
the influence of alcohol or while under the influence of any other self administered
intoxicant or drug of whatsoever nature.
(d) A violation of this section
shall be punishable by a fine of up to two hundred and fifty dollars ($250.00). |
