ARTICLE III. SUPPLEMENTAL
REGULATIONS
Sec. 7.1-17.
Expansive type soil.
(a) Soil
testing shall be performed by a qualified individual, who shall: (1)
deter-mine the number of borings required; (2) provide a report of the soil
test results; (3) provide recommendations for foundation design. As an
acceptable alternative, tests which were completed at the subdivision stage
of development that have sufficient data to indicate that no additional
testing is required on the building site for the
building construction, may be accepted. When test results indicate the
presence of expansive soil at the building site, the foundation for the
proposed structure shall be designed by a registered design professional
prior to any building permit being issued.
(b) Additions to existing buildings that will not exceed 30% of the existing
footprint area, and decks, shall not require a soil test.
(c) The requirements for soil testing for non-habitable accessory structures
not exceeding 600 square feet may be waived at the discretion of the
building code official.
