A Circuit Court judge may appoint a
conservator for a person who is unable to take care of his or her property
or a guardian for a person who is unable to take care of himself or
herself following the procedure described in
Virginia
Code Section 37.2-1001. After the judge has signed an order
appointing a guardian or conservator and before taking any action on
behalf of the incapacitated adult, the guardian or conservator must
provide additional
Information
to the
clerk of the Circuit Court and sign a bond in an amount set by the judge.
Within four months after being sworn
in, a conservator will be required to file an
Inventory
with the Commissioner of Accounts . Within six months from the date
of qualification, the conservator will also be required to file with the
Commissioner of Accounts an
Account for
the period from the date of qualification through the next four months.
Second and subsequent accounts are due within 16 months from the ending
date of the prior account, and should cover no more than 12 months.
