SUMMER READING

The York County Public Library offers summer reading programs for infants/toddlers, children, teens, and adults. The 2017 program runs from June 26 through August 4, 2017. The Library offers special events, performances, movies, story times and prizes. All programs are free of charge and open to everyone. Registration is not required to attend programs. Registration is required to participate in the reading programs and to be eligible for prizes. Register online or in person at the Tabb or Yorktown Youth Services desk.

Reading By Design for Infants & Toddlers
Summer Reading Program for Ages 0-3
Registration

The 2017 summer reading program for infants and toddlers, ages birth to 3-years-old runs from June 26 through August 4, 2017. Online registration begins June 5. After registering online, stop by the Youth Services Department at Tabb or Yorktown and pick up your bookmark and bubbles. There are two reading levels based on the number of books you read in the infant/toddler summer reading program. You may count any books you read (not limited to library books) towards your goal. Begin reading as soon as you register. Start logging your books in the online system on June 26. In addition to the reading program, enjoy free events and activities for all ages!

Your Goal is to Read 30 Books this Summer!

Level 1: Read 15 books and then select a new prize book. Level 1 prize books will be available beginning July 10.

Level 2: Read an additional 15 books for a total of 30 books and then select a new prize book and tote bag. Level 2 prizes will be available beginning July 31.

Start logging your books in the online system on June 26. In addition to the reading program, register for our Teen Challenge programs.

Your Goal is to Read 800 Minutes this Summer!

Reading by Design for Adults
Summer Reading Program for Ages 18 and Up
Registration

Design your summer around reading! Join the adult summer reading program, Reading by Design! Read and review books each week during the six week program, June 26 through August 4. Log your reviews for each book on our summer reading website. Three prizes will be awarded each week, as well as a grand prize drawing at the conclusion of the program. Online registration begins June 21 and continues through July 28, 2017.

Program Guidelines

  • This program is open to any York County Public Library patron who is 18 years or older and whose account is in good standing with total fines and fees less than $5.
  • Participants may read or listen to any book from the York County Public Library's Adult/Young Adult Fiction, Adult Nonfiction, Adult/Young Adult OneClickdigital, Adult/Young Adult OverDrive and Adult/Young Adult Graphic Novel Collection (excluding cookbooks and honor books).
  • Participants may read as many books as they wish per week.
  • Book reviews must include the title, author last and first name, a short review (3 sentence minimum), rating, genre and type of book read (book, CD, audiobook, eBook).
  • Only "public" book reviews are eligible for prize drawings. Book reviews that contain offensive language are not eligible for the prize drawings.
  • Prize drawings will be held each Monday afternoon from entries received the previous week. Three names will be drawn each week. Winners will be contacted by email or phone. The winning names will be available on the library's website after 5 p.m. each Monday.
  • Weekly prize winners will each receive a $25 Amazon gift card. Participants may win only one weekly prize.
  • All weekly entries will be entered into the final grand prize drawing held at the conclusion of the program for one of four $50 Amazon gift cards.
  • All prizes must be claimed by August 31, 2017.
