IMPORTANT RECYCLING PROGRAM ANNOUNCEMENT
Curbside Recycling Moves to Every Other Week Beginning July 5, 2010
In light of the down turned economy and resulting budget shortfalls, the Board of Supervisors has determined that cutting back on the frequency of the curbside recycling program will save much needed funds. The weekly collection service will be scaled back to every other week beginning the week of July 5.
York County encourages residents to continue with their recycling efforts. The day of the week on which your recycling is collected will not change. However, due to the new every other week collection schedule, residents will be permitted to place additional containers or paper bags of recyclables next to their VPPSA bin. Recommended containers can be a plastic storage tote of a size comparable to the county-provided recycling bin. Residents are also encouraged to utilize the county's drop off recycling site located at 145 Goodwin Neck Road. The site is open Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. beginning May 15th, 2010.
Recycling is an important and vital part of York County's solid waste management program. The county appreciates the support of its residents in continuing their enthusiastic recycling efforts by adjusting to the every other week collection service and utilizing the drop off center when necessary.

RESIDENTIAL COOKING OIL DROP-OFF RECYCLING
Did you know that cooking oil and grease are recyclable and should not be discarded down the drain, NOR should they be disposed of in landfills in liquid form? Dumping grease, fats, and oil can clog sewer lines, causing sewage back-ups and flooding. Sewage back-ups can damage personal and public property. In addition, free flowing liquids should NEVER be placed in a landfill.
- York County has added cooking oil recycling
- Residents only (no commercial establishments) may now bring up to five gallons per visit
- Valley Proteins will collect the used oil for use in the production of protein meals, animal feed and a substitute fuel.
