County Attorney

The York County Attorney provides full-time legal services in civil matters and litigation to the Board of Supervisors, County Administrator and the five departments of the County.  In addition, the County Attorney represents the School Board, School Superintendent and school system, York-Poquoson Social Services, the County's Constitutional Officers and many boards, commissions and agencies such as the Planning Commission, the Board of Zoning Appeals, the Chesapeake Bay Board, and the Economic Development Authority.

The York County Attorney's Office is a two-attorney office that places particular emphasis on the "proactive" practice of law - that is, trying to stay abreast of developments in the law as they affect County agencies and departments, providing ongoing legal counseling, and trying to avert legal problems before they arise.  The office is involved during the early stages of the programs and activities undertaken by the County's schools, government departments and agencies to ensure awareness of legal issues related to the administration and provision of these programs and services.
