The mosquito monitor volunteer program was established in order to enhance citizen awareness and give citizens a stake in the mosquito control effort and its outcome. Each year citizens are solicited to become participants in the mosquito integrated management effort by monitoring mosquito numbers in their own yards. They attend a training class and are given a New Jersey mosquito light trap to provide periodic feedback on the number of male/female mosquitoes along with the level of annoyance in their local vicinity. This information is used as one of the criteria in determining whether a particular area’s mosquito infestation warrants a spray treatment. SPECIAL THANKS TO OUR VOLUNTEERS!
