VIRGINIA CODE § 18.2-308
APPLICATION: Residents of York County and the City of Poquoson over the age of 21 may apply for a concealed handgun permit by completing an application obtained online or from the York County - Poquoson Circuit Court Clerk's Office. First time applicants must make application in person in the Circuit Court Clerk's Office and shall present one valid form of photo identification issued by a governmental agency of the Commonwealth of by the U.S. Department of Defense or U.S. State Department (passport). Non-resident concealed handgun permit applications are filed with the Virginia State Police.
FEE: The non-refundable application fee for a new permit or to renew an existing permit is $30.00. Checks payable to the York County - Poquoson Circuit Court and MasterCard and VISA are accepted. A convenience fee of 4% or $2.00, whichever is greater, will be charged on all credit card transactions.
PROOF OF COMPETENCY: Proof of competency to carry a handgun is required.
CRIMINAL HISTORY: York County and the City of Poquoson have local ordinances requiring a criminal record search by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Fingerprints are no longer required.
ISSUANCE: The concealed handgun permit is issued within 45 days of the date the complete application is submitted to the Clerk. If after the permit is issued and a criminal record search reveals that the applicant is disqualified, the permit is subject to revocation.
LOST PERMITS: There is a $5.00 fee to replace a lost or worn permit.
RENEWAL: Applications for permit renewal should be submitted at least 45 days prior to expiration of the current permit. Applications for permit renewal may be done in person - OR - via mail and should be submitted at least 45 days prior to expiration of the current permit.
CHANGE OF ADDRESS: There is a $10.00 fee for re-issuance of a permit for a change of address. Change of Address forms may be obtained online or from the York County-Poquoson Circuit Court Clerk's office and may be submitted to the Clerk's Officer in person - OR - via mail.
