The public is invited to join members of the NASA /Langley Skywatchers Astronomy Club when club members explore the night sky at New Quarter Park on Saturday, November 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. The program is offered free of charge and participants will have the opportunity to view the moon, Mars, the Andromeda Galaxy, and other celestial objects through the astronomers’ telescopes. Early birds are welcome to arrive at 5:30 p.m. to talk to the astronomers while they set up.
York County’s New Quarter Park is located at 1000 Lakeshead Drive adjacent to the Queens Lake neighborhood. For more information, call Parks, Recreation and Tourism at 890-3513 or the park office at 890-5842.
Our 545 acres of mature forests, meadows, ravines and tidal wetlands is located close to historic Williamsburg.
May through October - Daily 8:00 a.m. until Dusk
November through April - Friday 10:00 am - Dusk / Saturday & Sunday 8:00 am - Dusk
The Park has 10 picnic shelters, 9 hiking trails with scenic overlooks, a mountain bike trail, routes for family biking, an 18-hole disc golf course, basketball and sand volleyball courts, a softball field, horseshoe pits, a large playground and access to the waterways for canoes, kayaks and fishing.
DOGS: Must be on leash at all times. Owners must dispose of waste.
PROHIBITED: Swimming, alcoholic beverages, golf, horses, motorized boats, radio/wire airplanes, overnight camping, metal detectors.
CONTACT: York County Parks, Recreation and Tourism (PRT) at 757-890-3500 for more information or to reserve picnic shelters. You may submit a request for a shelter; however, requests are not approved until staff processes the request and ensures that shelters are available.
