Laurie Coleman, Director of Community ServicesLaurie Coleman is the Director of Community Services.  Mrs. Coleman supervises the divisions of Children and Family Services, Video Services, Juvenile Services, Special Programs, Housing and Neighborhood Revitalization, and Parks, Recreation, and Tourism.  In her capacity as director, she oversees the activities of the Library and the York-Poquoson Office of Virginia Cooperative Extension. 

Mrs. Coleman earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Industrial/Organization Psychology from Christopher Newport University and her Master of Arts degree in Human Resources Management from Troy State University.Mrs. Coleman started working for York County in 1994 as the Human Resources Manager and was promoted to the position of Director of Community Services in 2013.  

Additional Responsibilities 

In addition to the activities of the various divisions, the Department coordinates federally funded job training programs, the Senior Center of York, and the Safety Town program.  The Department is responsible for the Arts Commission, Colonial Group Home Commission, Youth Commission, Comprehensive Services Act Community Policy and Management Team. The Department serves as liaison for the Library Board of Trustees; the Department of Social Services; Virginia Cooperative ExtensionBehavioral Health Services; Juvenile Courts and the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice; Peninsula Agency on Aging and has significant interaction with the Health Department, the School System, and a variety of other public service agencies and community organizations.  This is a department heavily involved in grant activities that each year brings millions of dollars of state and federal monies into the County for the benefit of its citizens.
