Electoral Board

The York County Electoral Board is responsible for elections in York County. The Registrar's Office assists the Electoral Board with carrying out elections. Two elections were held in Fiscal Year 2015: the November 2014 General Election and the June 2015 Republican Primary. The number of voters participating in each election was as follows:
  • November 2014 General Election - 20,713
  • June 2015 Republican Primary - 3,630

Registrar's Office

The York County Registrar's Office maintains records for over 43,000 registered voters. Between July 1, 2014 and July 1, 2015, the number of registered voters decreased by 1,833 voters, or 4.1%. The following statistics represent the changes in voter registration in the Registrar's Office between July 1, 2014 and July 1, 2015:
  • Added to the list of voters in York County
    • New voters - 1,420
    • Transferred from elsewhere in Virginia - 1,227
  • Removed from the list of voters in York County
    • Transferred to another jurisdiction in Virginia - 1,297
    • Moved out of state - 266
    • Deceased - 322
    • Purged - 2,407
    • Felony conviction - 25

New Voting System

In April 2015, the Board of Supervisors, at the request of the Electoral Board, purchased a new voting system for the County to use, replacing the aging optical scan and touchscreen voting systems. The new equipment, including a device accessible to voters with disabilities, will first be used in the November 2015 General Election. This new equipment will ensure the security and integrity of the election process in York County for years to come.
